Reasons Why Winter is the Ideal Season to Schedule Cosmetic Surgery

At the Gabay & Gottlieb Cosmetic Surgery Center in Philadelphia, our plastic surgeons tend to see a wave of new clients during the winter. Perhaps it’s the idea of the New Year – a new look that will wow friends and family come spring and summer. Some people may be changing the career or the lifestyle they lead by opting for a breast augmentation procedure at our Philadelphia center. Regardless, we find that winter is one of our busiest seasons, and there are a few good reasons for this:

Winter Is All About Covering Up

In the weeks directly following surgery, it’s only natural to want to cover up and conceal what you’ve done until you’re ready to shine. While you’re recovering from any sutures, swellings, or bruisings on your skin, you’ll want to wear garments or dressings that will aid and speed up the healing process. Luckily for you, no one will bat an eyelid if you’re bundled up in your happiest and warmest wear.

Sweaters, jeans, and dress pants can be ideal for concealing any body contouring during the winter months. Your favorite scarf or hat can do wonders making a fashion statement while maintaining a modicum of modesty and discretion.

Relaxing During the Holidays

Inevitably, any cosmetic surgery that you receive will require some days of downtime. When do you ever get as many holidays and opportunities to vacation as you do during the holiday season? And you don’t have to fret about staying home, as the temperatures drop and your friends start to spend the weekends indoors.

Minimizing Your Suntime

Much as we all love sunlight and warmth, all that UV showering isn’t ideal as your skin is healing from a surgical procedure. We recommend that our patients do their best to minimize their hours under the sun. During a Philadelphia winter, we’re lucky if the sun stays up past 4:30 PM.

A New Year, An All-New You!

Who doesn’t want to enhance their appearance and look all the more youthful on January 1st?

Scheduling your cosmetic surgery during the winter can make this a reality for you. Call us here at Gabay & Gottlieb Cosmetic Surgery Center at 215-501-7565, and we’ll discuss the all-new you!

Four of the Most Common Cosmetic Procedures and Their Down Time

If you’re planning on undergoing cosmetic surgery in the coming months, you’ve probably already begun thinking about how much time you’ll need to take off from work or school as you recover. After all, just like other major surgeries, most cosmetic procedures will leave your body significantly stressed and in need of rest in order to properly recover. Here are four of the most common cosmetic procedures and the amount of time you’ll likely need to take for recovery:

  • Breast implants. Following a breast augmentation procedure, you will likely feel discomfort around both your nipple area and the muscle tissue beneath your breasts. Most women who undergo Philadelphia breast augmentation can get back to their standard routine after two to three days of rest, but you are advised to avoid heavy lifting and excess strain to your pectoral muscles for up to six weeks.

  • Rhinoplasty. Due to the excessive swelling and bruising that is common after a rhinoplasty procedure, most patients like to take at least a week’s recovery time to allow their head to have all-day elevation. While most people see a reduction in swelling after ten to fourteen days post-operation, it may take up to a few months to see a full recovery.

  • Liposuction. Most people who have liposuction in Philadelphia do not find the procedure to be particularly stressful and are able to return to their daily activities in as little as two days to a week.

  • Tummy tuck. A full abdominoplasty (or “tummy tuck”) removes a large amount of skin from the stomach area and can be particularly stressful. Most people are given painkillers post-op, which can make certain jobs that require operating machinery or driving impossible to complete. You may be able to return to work in about two weeks’ time, but you will likely have to wear compression garments over your abdomen for up to six weeks while the swelling goes down.

Though these estimates are useful for most people to get an idea of how much time they’ll need to take off following a cosmetic procedure, it’s important to plan ahead and make your schedule flexible in case you react particularly negatively to the procedure. Talking to your doctor ahead of time is a great way to ease any concerns about your recovery and to assist in planning for your down-time post-operation. (FAQ) Frequently Asked Questions About Liposuction

Have you recently been wondering how to get rid of stubborn fat on your body? Maybe you’re already dieting and exercising, but it still doesn’t seem to be enough. Liposuction may be just the thing you’re looking for. Here are some frequently asked questions about the procedure:

Q. What is liposuction?

A. Liposuction is a cosmetic surgical procedure that improves the body’s contour by removing excess deposits of fat that are located between the muscle and skin. For removing stubborn fat on the body, liposuction is one of the most popular procedures in the world.

Q. Why do people choose liposuction?

A. Most people typically choose liposuction if they find that diet and exercise are not working in regards to removing the stubborn fat from their body. The best patients for this procedure are close to their ideal weight, but they have unwanted bulges of fat. Sometimes people use it to jumpstart a weight loss program, but they should not expect to lose more than five or ten pounds from liposuction alone.

Q. What kind of scars will result from liposuction?

A. Most of the patients who have completed liposuction have found that the scars are no larger than a birthmark as only a quarter-inch incision is typically needed. Scars are easily hidden since Dr. Gabay and Dr. Gottlieb select areas hidden by clothing or areas that have a naturally existing skin crease.

Here at Gabay & Gottlieb Cosmetic Surgery, we do everything possible to go above and beyond for our patients. Are you a good candidate?

Candidates for rhinoplasty come from all ages and backgrounds. If you’re in good health and desire to have your nose reshaped, then you will most likely be a good candidate for this procedure. Here at Gabay & Gottlieb Cosmetic Surgery, nasal examinations and medical histories are performed and checked at the initial complimentary consultation. How should you prepare for the surgery?

After the consultation and we decide how to proceed with your surgery, we will provide you with a list of instructions before you undergo the procedure. Generally, eating and drinking are not allowed after midnight on the evening before rhinoplasty is performed. Once you speak with Dr. Gabay or Dr. Gottlieb, you will receive more information.

How long can you expect to be out of work?

At Gabay & Gottlieb Cosmetic Surgery Center, the rhinoplasty procedure will typically last an hour in duration. When you’re recovering from it, the initial postoperative surgical dressing involves a small cast over your nose for one week. Most people can expect to be out of work for about one to two weeks. You should not begin to exercise again for at least three to four weeks.
